    Good-bye, civilization!

Svalbard entered the light of discovery late. Only at the end of the 16th century did Dutch adventurers reach the archipelago. Today, it is easy to reach Longyearbyen by plane, but Spitsbergen has not lost the fascination of its remoteness.

The main town of the archipelago is also for you the entrance to the Arctic. From here you start your Spitsbergen expedition on the MS Stockholm, one of the most striking and beautiful ships of the north.

By whalers and north polar explorers

As soon as you are on board and have settled in, the Stockholm departs. She sets course for the northwest corner of Spitsbergen: first through the Isfjord, then towards the Prins Karls Forland. In the east the Greenland Sea stretches out and in the west pointy mountains stand out against the arctic sky.

There are many fjords and bays that you can visit. Where exactly you land is decided by the expedition leader and captain depending on the circumstances. Especially up here nature is unpredictable. But your experienced team knows ice, weather and wildlife very well. Maybe you will visit the Smeerenburg glacier. Or the bay of Virgohamna; whalers have found their end there. And brave ones have taken off in balloons to the North Pole.
