    Svalbard is the home and hunting ground of wild polar bears. With a bit of luck and patience you will have the unique opportunity to observe polar bears in their natural environment. The Norwegian archipelago consists of more than 400 small islands and is located at the edge of civilization. Many animal and plant species have their home here.     First day: Arrival at Longyearbyen. Overnight in a hotel.

    Second day: Embarkation and start of the expedition.

    Third to penultimate day: On expedition cruise... Ice, weather and wildlife observation will determine the route.

    Last day: Disembarkation at Longyearbyen and return home.

    Please note: The trips and programmes described here are for your orientation only. The final itinerary will be adjusted on site according to weather conditions, the current ice situation and animal sightings. The captain and expedition leader will determine the itinerary depending on the above mentioned factors and will inform you daily about the events. Flexibility and adaptability is of utmost importance on cruises with expedition character.

    Arrival in Longyearbyen

    The first highlight of the tour is the former mining town Longyearbyen. In summer the sun does not set and the nights are bright as day. Here you can discover the first animal inhabitants of the Arctic, for example the Spitsbergen-Ren. This subspecies of the reindeer is smaller and only occurs on Svalbard.

    Snowmobiles parked in the front garden give you a first impression of the completely different culture and way of life in this unique region.

    In the Svalbard Museum you can learn more about 400 years of natural and cultural history.

    Off on an adventure!

    In the afternoon you will board your expedition ship for the first time. Get to know the MS Sea Spirit and move into your well-equipped cabins. After the ship has sailed, your arctic adventure will start. You will leave civilization behind and have a last look at the colorful scenery of Longyearbyen. The Sea Spirit crosses the Isfjord and sets course for the high arctic!

    • One overnight stay before embarkation at Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen in Longyearbyen
    • Group transfer from airport to hotel the day before embarkation;
    • Group transfer to the ship on the day of embarkation;
    • Group transfer to the airport or the city centre after disembarkation;
    • Accommodation in the booked cabin category;
    • All meals on board during the cruise (B/L/D);
    • 24-hour tea and coffee station on board;
    • All planned shore excursions, Zodiac rides, excursions according to program;
    • Experienced expedition leaders and lecturers (English/German speaking);
    • Expedition parka specially designed for polar regions;

    Not included in travel price

    • Arrival and departure, flight to Longyearbyen (LYR), Arctos Travel will gladly book your flight to match your schedule.
    • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages including coffee specialties;
    • Health insurance with emergency evacuation (required);
    • Luggage and cancellation insurance (recommended);
    • Personal expenses and tips.


    • This trip is not suitable for persons with reduced mobility.
    • During an expedition it may be necessary to change the itinerary. Depending on weather and ice conditions, the expedition leader and the captain will decide on the best possible alternative.
    • Encounters with the mentioned animals cannot be guaranteed.
    • On this trip, we recommend an overnight stay in Longyearbyen or an overnight stay in Oslo, depending on the flight schedule.
    • We can offer you a pre or post program on Spitsbergen to match your expedition cruise.
    • Excursions in a sea kayak can be booked additionally (advance reservation and paddling experience required).
